The rapid explosion of technology has led to a new age where the checks and balances of ethical data collection and self-regulation that grew organically over the past 70 years are now often 'overlooked' in favor of speed and cost-efficiency -all these with detrimental effects. As part of ESOMAR's continued commitment to better understand how data is being used within and outside of organizations, how it is being controlled, and who 'owns' that data, we partnered with Kadence International to conduct a study amongst executives working in marketing, advertising, market research, and IT in North America, Europe and Asia. The results showed that although business leaders around the world put a high commercial value on consumer data, they pay far less emphasis on ensuring its security.
Our world knows many conflicts which stand in the way of global peace; civil wars and political unrest, global economic and financial crises, terrorist acts, lack of food security, access to safe water and the list goes on. Will these issues of concern continue to take place in our world and which are people most worried about? Which stands most in the way of global peace? WIN/Gallup International Association, the largest independent association of market research and polling firms conducted a survey in 50 countries across the globe and in all 7 regions to find out what are the hurdles on the path to global peace and which nation leaders will fight for it.
The challenge of market research is perhaps greatest in countries where it becomes nearly impossible to complete any daily polls due to conditions of social inequality, violence as an historical constant and inefficient transportation and communications infrastructure. Colombia is a perfect scenario to test the creativity and the adaptability of research agencies, which can be evidenced through the case study 'Security Perception' carried out by YanHaas since 2010 for the military forces, and where a conjunction of factors inherent and external to the research goals constrained the agency to modify the polls, among others, to succeed in the research.
This paper shows how in-depth motivational qualitative research helped identify the underlying hopes and fears of consumers in relation to internet security. By looking deeply into B2B and B2C customers' motivations and inhibitions within the category, a better understanding was gained of the symbolic and cultural environment surrounding internet security. Using Archetype Theory helped optimise Kaspersky's global brand strategy.
This paper describes the result of a segmentation analysis of attitudes towards electronic commerce. A random sample of Internet users in the United States formed five distinct segments with varying beliefs concerning the usefulness security and convenience of e-commerce. These segments have been profiled extensively and compared against similar segmentation results obtained from a Web-based convenience sample.
In recent years with growing pressure on profits and (at any rate in the U.K.) state interference in price-fixing, many companies have been devoting more attention to the need to develop procurement policies: skill and foresight in purchasing often being as, or more important a determinant of profitability as marketing ability. Moreover, developments in the food processing industry have focussed attention on the fundamental importance of procurement policies: policies that are very much affected by political, climatic, economic, technical and social changes. Rarely, if ever, has ESOMAR considered the application of research techniques to procurement problems, as a means of helping manufacturers to develop procurement policies which guarantee the input of raw materials essential to their manufacturing and marketing activity. This paper discusses these applications, illustrated with several case histories covering activities as diverse as sugar refining, vegetable freezing, bacon curing, meat processing and the manufacture of potato products.
