To summarise, one must look again at Table I when diversifying and expanding in the health care field. Look at the total market, consider all products and services and especially services. Look at highly specialised fields such as life support systems and look at health care facilities in addition to products and services. Over the past 10 years the health care industry has been perhaps the most dramatic growth market in the world and we think it will continue to be so. There are dramatic breakthroughs coming in many fields such as immunology, radiology, life support systems and services. We hope that your companies will be privileged to take advantage of these opportunities.
Created in 1886 - a small plant for the production of dyestuffs, located in Basle - SANDOZ is today well known throughout the world for its dyestuffs, pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, dietetic and hospital supply products, thanks to its considerable network of more than 40 affiliated companies and distribution organisations which sell the products manufactured by the Head Offices, and also their own products - as most affiliates have their own production and research centres. This liberal expansion has enabled SANDOZ to make the best of economic and political situations which are in permanent change.
I would like however to look at the problems of diversification and communication from the international standpoint, and to deal mainly with pharmaceuticals - diversification into new therapeutic areas internationally - which is after all the major type of diversification that we as pharmaceutical market researchers are faced with.
