Abstract:
This paper identifies and discusses the weaknesses of server log file based web site measurement systems concluding that these systems are undercounting the real audience accessing web sites due to web pages being cached. The paper details and explains the world first WebMeasure web site audience measurement system developed by SOFRESrIMR which overcomes the caching problem by measuring in the web browser rather than at the server. WebMeasure which is based on the JAVA software language measures all web pages regardless of whether they are accessed from the clientâs server from a proxy server from browser cache or from PC RAM. The result is that WebMeasure provides audience measurement data that is up to 400% higher than the data provided by server log file based measurement systems.
