Abstract:
This presentation considers the need for a new kind of participative democracy in the United Kingdom and outlines how the UK government is using deliberative and collaborative approaches to build stronger engagement with citizens. This is illustrated with a number of case studies and some key learnings from this experience are shared. The presentation discusses the opportunities and challenges of working in this different way, reviews some of the issues involved in managing expectations and describes the benefits of these methodologies for enhanced decision-making.
