Abstract:
Whether you provide your recruitment partner with a detailed screener, a persona pen portrait, or a quick list of bullet points, you may give little thought to exactly how and in what context those screening questions are asked during recruitment. Yet as a qualitative researcher you know how powerfully cognitive biases and heuristics can influence responses and affect a whole range of factors beyond the actual answer to the question. From priming affects to commitment to attendance, the complex interplay of System 1 vs System 2 thinking needs greater attention during the commissioning and conduct of the recruitment process, and this presentation examines that in detail.
