Abstract:
In May 2020, in the world's richest country and its largest democracy, a police officer murdered a Black man. This wasn't the first incident of its kind, but it took place with the world amid the collective trauma of the COVID-19 pandemic's first peak, and at a time when many of our political leaders were using division as a strategy to acquire and consolidate power. These circumstances combined to create a moment that jolted people around the world into confronting the extent of structural inequality in our societies, in our workplaces, and in our institutions.
