Developing a new way to monitor opinion in Europe

Abstract:

This paper covers the development of the Continuous Tracking Survey (CTS), a new instrument created for the European Commission to monitor public opinion in the European Union. The survey is carried out continuously using CATI and CAPI in the fifteen member states of the European Union. This paper discusses the structure of the survey and results to date. There is a detailed review of experiments designed to improve response rates to this survey and comparisons with results obtained from other surveys in Europe and the United States. There is a brief discussion of the initial results.
