Abstract:

I will try today to give you my views on how I see the food industry future. The future will bring rapid change, a need to anticipate change, to inspire it, to shape it when useful, to react to it even when it is less palatable but inevitable.Flexibility is a key word for the future - Rigidity will be severely punished in the market place. The successful business of tomorrow will even more than before need to operate in a pragmatic way, because change is going to be accelerating, and system and dogmas cannot deal with the problems and opportunities of this environment. We have one important advantage: Being in the food business, we are fairly flexible compared to, say, the car industry but still need to be more versatile and quick on our feet than in the past.
