Abstract:
This paper discusses two major aspects of research for public transport investment. These are the provision of comprehensive and detailed journey data by all modes of transport for individual origin/destination areas, and the measurement of preferences and priorities for improvements among users of public transport systems. For each aspect a case history of a development study is given together with discussion of the special problems and implications of research in each area. The mathematical form of any transportation models for which journey data is provided is not covered in this paper.
